INDICA

Pick up an Indica like Delicata Grapes (THC 34%) on your next visit!

While not all Indicas give precisely the same effects, the vast majority will give the famed Indica body high—AKA ‘couch lock’. A body high is a physical relaxing sensation, often associated with the feeling of ‘heaviness’ or a content, ‘melting’ sensation. Some Indicas impart a more euphoric sensation which causes the body to feel pleasant—rather than neutral—when at rest, or when moving suddenly after a period of rest.

While some Indicas may induce a feeling of sleepiness or mental sluggishness, the effects are often more physical than mental. Indicas are also well-known to stimulate the appetite, or ‘give you the munchies’. While most strains will make chowing down a much more enjoyable experience, some can create a downright powerful craving for your favorite munchy snacks!

HYBRID

(Indica Dominant)

Pick up an Indica-Dominant Hybrid like Oreoz (THC 33%) if you’re looking for high potency effects.

The world of Hybrids isn’t so confusing after you know how they work! An Indica-Dominant Hybrid is one who’s lineage leans more toward the Indica side of the family than Sativa; typically this refers to their parentage, but in strains with well known genetic lines, grandparents and even great-grandparent strains are taken into consideration. Because of their diverse background, generally, Hybrids offer a more holistic blend of Sativa and Indica qualities.

Those that lean toward Indica-dominance will typically offer blanket effects, as in, a little bit of everything any Indica has to offer, like body high, appetite stimulation, sleepiness, relaxation, stress relief, and pain relief. However, Indica-dominants are best known for giving powerful sedative effects, due to the crossover of the many strains in their backgrounds.

By looking at where many of the parent and grandparent strain traits overlap, one can get a picture of which effects will be the strongest in the descendant strain.

HYBRID

(Balanced)

Pick up an Balanced Hybrid like Whoa-Si-Whoa (THC 34%) if you’re looking for a wide range of effects.

The world of Hybrids isn’t so confusing after you know how they work! A Balanced Hybrid is one who’s lineage neither leans more toward Indica or Sativa lines; typically this refers to their parentage, but in strains with well known genetic lines, grandparents and even great-grandparent strains are taken into consideration. Because of their diverse background, generally, Hybrids offer a more holistic blend of Sativa and Indica qualities.

Those that are balanced will typically offer blanket effects, as in, a little bit of everything any Indica or Sativa has to offer, like body high, appetite stimulation, sleepiness, relaxation, stress relief, and pain relief, in addition to euphoria, creativity, stimulation, mood-enhancement, and anxiety reduction. Balanced Hybrids are best known for being fantastic all-rounders which offer the widest range of diverse effects.

HYBRID

(Sativa Dominant)

Pick up an Sativa-dominant Hybrid like Blue Slushie (THC 32%) if you’re looking for high potency effects.

Those that are Sativa-dominant will typically offer blanket effects, as in, a little bit of everything any Sativa has to offer, like euphoria, creativity, stimulation, mood-enhancement, and anxiety reduction. Sativa-dominant Hybrids are best known for their uplifting and energizing effects, in addition to being highly psychoactive and imparting strong ‘head-highs’.

SATIVA

Take home a Sativa like Tangie Pop (THC 36%) for an instant pick-me-up!

Sativas are often distinguished from Indica by their most noticeable effect, the head-high. A head-high feels far more cerebral than physical, and can even cause minor changes to audio-visual perception which has been known to enhance creativity. This does not mean users will experience hallucinations—as in seeing or hearing things that aren’t there—but rather that they tend to feel happier about what they do see, or may perceive its features as more beautiful. This is why Sativas are associated with uplifting effects, like mood-enhancement, anxiety-relief, and stress-relief.

Sativas are also associated with euphoric effects; a general state of well-being that is often accompanied by a feeling of light-heartedness. If you’ve ever gotten the giggles after smoking a strain, chances are it had Sativa lineage. Sativa highs are often reported as very intense, and this is true in larger quantities due to Sativas often providing proportionately high levels of THC and lower levels of CBN. However, in moderation, Sativas can produce a light, pleasant high that imparts energy, making it easy to go about your day.

CBD Flower

Take home a CBD product like CBD Babies 10pk Prerolls (3.5G Total Weight: CBD 16% THC 3.5%) for more curative, less psychoactive effects!

CBD flowers tend to lean to the non-psychoactive spectrum of cannabis, though they often have small amounts of THC which helps to ‘activate’ the effects of the CBD. In high proportions, CBD is touted for providing pain relief and soothing effects which may help to offset the effects of anxiety, depression, and even insomnia. Smoking CBD on its own does not produce a high, although the small amounts of THC present in most flowers may induce a sense of calm, happiness, reduction of paranoia, and mild appetite stimulation.

CBD is currently the only component synthesized from exclusively from cannabis that is used in legal, prescription medication (in much higher potencies than found naturally in CBD buds). It is the most-researched component of cannabis and in certain concentrations and for certain uses, has demonstrated statistically-significant curative effects. But, because they often offer little-to-no recreational effects, CBD flowers are more popular in medicinal-use communities, which can make them more challenging to find. You want to look for concentrations around 10% CBD and up; anything less than 2% is unlikely to produce helpful results and may simply help to offset any THC-induced paranoia while smoking more psychoactive strains.

Pro-tip: Pure Beauty’s CBD Babies 10pk are fantastic because they are ready to go when you need instant-pain relief, or you can empty small amounts from preroll to bowl for the perfect, pre-ground serving of cannabis.

BONG

You should try smoking your flower out of a Bong.

Many people intuitively understand that higher THC percentages are associated with stronger effects. But did you know that how you smoke affects the duration, intensity, and even the type of effects you will experience from your flower?

Smoking from a bong has a lot of benefits, namely longevity, intensity, and activation, of the natural effects of your flower. It is a device that in a sense, unlocks the potential of your flower. In addition to an enhanced experience, you will also use less flower and benefit from water-filtration. You know that famous, oh-so-lovely bongwater smell? Your water becomes cloudy and ‘fragrant’ because it is absorbing particulates that would’ve otherwise made their way to your lungs, making water-pipes an arguably cleaner way to smoke than other methods.

BUBBLER

You should try smoking your flower out of a Bubbler.

Many people intuitively understand that higher THC percentages are associated with stronger effects. But did you know that how you smoke affects the duration, intensity, and even the type of effects you will experience from your flower?

Bubblers come in a range of shapes and sizes, from traditional styles like side-car and Gandalf-pipes, to more unique designs and shapes which often feature themes or whimsical characters. Because they are smaller—typically less than 10 inches in height or length—they lean toward being less expensive than a bong of comparable quality and are more convenient for portable use. In this way, they represent a midpoint between a bong and a pipe; they are more efficient than a pipe—meaning stronger effects with less flower—and the user still reaps the benefits of water-filtration.

Because of their designs, some can be trickier to clean so it’s recommended to soak them frequently in high-concentrations of isopropyl alcohol to prevent internal buildup.

PIPE

You should try smoking your flower out of a Pipe.

Many people intuitively understand that higher THC percentages are associated with stronger effects. But did you know that how you smoke affects the duration, intensity, and even the type of effects you will experience from your flower?

Pipes are the last stop before prerolls; they are incredibly convenient, portable, often inexpensive, and beautiful. Pipes are easy to handle and don’t require water to use (technically bongs and bubblers can be used dry as well, but if you’ve ever dry-ripped one by accident you understand why it is definitely not recommended).

They come in an incredible number of different sizes and designs, ranging from tiny and inexpensive, to large, artistic pieces that do well on display. There are even extremely discreet pipes that fold out of keychains or mimick the appearance of cigarettes if you prefer to consume your THC on the down-low. And while pipes can be incredibly convenient, simple to use and are highly available and often at cheap prices in a pinch (Broke your bong a few days before payday? We’ve all been there…), they also are known for depleting cannabis supplies faster and providing shorter duration of effects, as well as offering reduced potency of effects compared to bubblers and especially bongs.

That said, this can be a very good thing—especially if you’ve only got a few hours to chill before you’d like your effects to wear off. They are also great for novice smokers because it is much easier to control the strength of the effects. And if you do accidentally smoke a bit much, the effects will wear off mercifully fast, unlike when you hit a bong too hard or eat too much of an edible.

INFUSED PREROLL

You should try smoking an Infused Preroll, like Presidential's Moon Rock Preroll (1G Total Weight: 50.1% THC, Pineapple Flavor).

Many people intuitively understand that higher THC percentages are associated with stronger effects. But did you know that how you smoke affects the duration, intensity, and even the type of effects you will experience from your flower?

Infused prerolls are a great middle-ground between potency and convenience. They contain infusions of pure kief, hash oil, and other concentrates, depending on the maker. This makes them strong enough that you will either want to share one with a few friends, or put out the cherry and save the other half, making it a more efficient, cost-effective option than it first appears. Users tend to experience more intensity of effects and longer duration than a comparable pipe-toke can offer, and certainly stronger effects than a non-infused joint.

That said, the effects wear off much faster than with a bubbler, making infused prerolls a great way to experince strong effects for short durations of time. In addition, they come in many different flavors, ranging from natural cannabis flavors to fruity and dessert flavors. You can also find infused blunts, which pack even more of a punch and can provide effects for a larger number of people before running down to the roach. Almost all infused prerolls have some form of paper or sponge filter, which helps them to be less harsh than a pipe but still can’t quite stand up to the filtration ability of water.

PREROLL

You should try smoking a (non-infused) Preroll, like ASHE's 'Junky' Premium Indoor Prerolls (1G Total Weight: 39% THC, Junky Strain).

Many people intuitively understand that higher THC percentages are associated with stronger effects. But did you know that how you smoke affects the duration, intensity, and even the type of effects you will experience from your flower?

Regular prerolls—AKA joints—are tried and true. They are convenient to take with you, can be purchased almost anywhere, or can be rolled with your own flower of choice if you pick up rolling paper or blunt wraps. (Just can’t get that rolling technique down? Try a joint or blunt roller: an inexpensive, simple device that will give you a perfect roll every time.) Prerolls can prove quite cost effective, as they can be lit, put out, and relit multiple times. They are known for providing shorter duration of effects, and the same flower smoked from a preroll will provide less intensity than when smoked from a bong; helpful for those that struggle with THC-induced anxiety or paranoia, but are still looking for the other benefits it provides.

Prerolls are the ultimate convenience, as you can light them and smoke them on the go, or empty a small amount of the pre-ground flower into your glass for a real punch. They can be found in various sizes, amounts, and lengths, with varying levels of THC content in the flowers within. Most of all, they are often inexpensive—the Junky Preroll is just $2.99 for 1G of premium flower—with many coming in 5 or 10-pack options. Often at 1G per roll, that’s a lot of flower for your buck!

They are excellent starter-products for total beginners, as their effects can be most easily controlled out of all of the smoking methods. Plus, if you smoke too much, the effects tend to wear off quickly.
